I have been milking Becca Boo and Addison for the past few days so I have goats milk in the refrigerator. Tonight the Commander decided to give it a taste test, he liked it a lot. My daughter was so impressed she decided to give it a try as well and she liked it too. My turn will come, just not just yet.
I love goat milk. You are so very fortunate to have goats to milk. Try it!
ReplyDeleteI know exactly what you mean. Have you made cheese yet? I love the mild cheeses. Just still a little funny about drinking the milk. I've always been a 2% girl and goat milk is awfully rich. This is my year though to get use to it. So I challenge you to have this be your year too!
ReplyDeletepsst. it takes like MILK! now cowboy up and go and getcha a big swig! look! i'm drinking some right now! see? ok we'll do it together ....one...two... three, and bottoms up! whoooot! now that is fresh and delicious milk! yay!

Goat's milk is wonderful! I can hardly wait to start milking again.
ReplyDeleteI think my only time trying goat milk was years ago. It was fresh from the goats, warm, with goat hair floating in it, and I haven't been able to talk myself into trying it again, even though I know it must be better if it is clean, strained, and chilled.
ReplyDeleteOllamaha - I really am blessed to have them, now I need to use their milk in the best possible manner.
ReplyDeleteGoatgirl - I am going to try cheese making very soon, this is very exciting. I'm not a huge milk drinker as it is so I have to work my way up to tasting the goat milk. I am encouraged that my daughter liked it so much.
OFG - I think I may try it mixed with Kahlua first!
Teresa - This is my first time ever milking and it is a lot harder than I expected. I have probably spilled more than I have collected so far.
KK - It goes right in the fridge after I'm done so it is nice and cold for drinking. The cheese cloth I use for straining is working great in making sure there are no hair or other foreign particles mixed in where they don't belong.
You'll get the hang of it just fine, just takes practice! ;) Goat milk is delish. Cheesecloth works perfect, I just milk in a stall (clean) in the barn and I get hair in the milk, but I just strain it out. No big deal. LOL about trying it mixed with kahlua first! That would be good !
ReplyDeleteLuckybunny - Thanks for the encouragement, the Commander is drinking it on a regular basis now so I have to get my chance soon.
ReplyDeleteNot new to goat milk but new to milking. Man, those tiny teats on the Nigerians are an education! I can't wait to breed my lamancha. Her teats are glorious LOL
ReplyDeleteBetty - It would be nice to have more milk but a bigger goat would be too much for me and our little place to handle. I have seen some huge, umm, goat teats and they are amazing! I can't help but think of Seinfeld.....
ReplyDeleteI'm ready to try goat everything!! Keep letting us know how it goes and what you think as you try it all!
