About that first egg....

Turns out the Commander isn't a very good finder.  We found 25 green eggs in the loft today so I'm am pretty sure that the lone Americauna has been laying for a while.

I wonder if the eggs are still good?

  1. You could try the float test in a glass of cold water. If it lays down, it is likely good. If it stands on end, questionable. If it floats, very bad. I really strong light may show you what is inside. If the pigs won't eat them, they are likely bad. :-}

  5. Ian - I don't think any of the roosters have gotten to her as she is too quick. I will try the water trick!

    Stacy - That will be my plan. That and the dogs and chickens!

    Tombstone - Exactly!

    OFG - The Commander can't find anything and he knows it! The chickens and dogs will be getting eggs for a while it seems.

  6. The eggs should be fine. In most of Europe they store eggs on the counter, not in the fridge. As long as the eggs haven't been washed and aren't fertile, they should be fine to eat.

  7. I'd give them to the dogs and chickens, too... just in case!

  8. I'd just break them into a separate bowl to ensure they look ok. As cold as it has been there, I'd think they'd be ok. But then if you have plenty of other eggs for humans, I guess it's safer to feed them to the pets. But I always test and eat guinea eggs we find, and I've survived...

  9. K-Koira - I guess I will have to figure out if any are fertile.

    Mary Ann - That is what the Commander is thinking.

    Lynn - You are always investigating while I would not want to see what is in some of them!
