Tucked in

Winter in NE Minnesota means early sunsets and late sunrises. The Commander gets up at 0515 to begin watering the sheep before work so it is always dark outside. When he gets home in the evening it has been dark until recently so I got him the above pictured headlight for Christmas. He tells me it works great and it has really helped with his chores.

The other day he told me it looked like someone was using the ewes feed bowl for a bed. He would go into the barn in the morning and find the hay smashed down with little presents left in it.

One morning he snuck in and turned on his light and found Orchid sleeping in the bowl, tucked in nice and tight amongst the hay. Smart girl that Orchid.

  4. My husband has one of those head lights too. It cracks me up when he wears it around, but it is very practical.

  6. I *love* my headlamp! It's especially useful for mucking in the dark, which totally happens on occasion around here.
I used it last year to go out after dark and pick bugs off my tender seedlings. :-)
That bowl actually looks really comfy. Orchid would totally have to scooch over if I were there.

  8. I have that same bowl that use for water. During the hot Texas summers I always find at least to black labs sitting or laying it to cool off. Who ever says animals are dumb, has never lived around them.

  9. Pam - I wouldn't put any trickery past the goats but the sheep, well, they are different. They are so skiddish at times but I sometimes get glimpses of sneaky intelligence.

  11. OFG - I stole my post on your page from LOTR's (obviously). It seemed fitting. The hay tub must be warmer than laying on the floor.
