Curse of the BBQ

Last time I posted that we had hamburgers on the grill, boy did they taste yummy!  Unfortunately the Minnesota Winter struck back and hit us with 3" of heavy wet snow.

This was my lovely view the next morning.  No grilling today.

Before, you can see the waste hay........

....and after, the hay is buried in snow!

Here is the floor of the sheep stall that the Commander cleaned out.  It still didn't look too appealing so I gave it a few days to dry.  Once the floor was swept again, sprinkled with DE, a few wood chips and straw added and it should be ready for lambing.

My sheep area has 3 stalls and a aisle way, this picture is taken from the doorway.

The stalls should provide plenty of room for a mother and her lamb(s) to bed down and spend some quality time together.

I just need to clean up the one closest to the front door, the ladder and the feed hay can go in the loft when the time comes.

Orchid can't wait for the lambing to begin. I told her, "Go ahead, you can be first!"  Oh yes, we are expecting a blizzard tomorrow with winds gusting to 40 knots and a possible 8-10" of snow - ugh!  The curse continues.

  7. I like your stalls. One of our goats gave birth yesterday and we weren't quite ready for it! (our dates put her at birthing in another 2 weeks) I ended u very quickly converting a storage area in the barn to a temporary growing out stall. Not nearly as pleasant as yours but it is clean and warm and will do nicely!

  8. Putting this here so you don't have to look for my blog :)

"Yep! They look like little pigs when they're first born, they're adorable! :)

If you want saddles, you can buy them through my website at www.louisescountrycloset.com (which would probably get to you overnight) or were you thinking a different way? Like, meeting up somewhere? If so, I'm not sure where exactly you live, lol."

  11. Like Oregon? Because it's super cool to live here and it hardly ever snows. You do like mud, right?
    :-)
I *love* barn tours! Thanks for the shots of the inside of yours. Your lambing stalls look perfect and very cozy.

  12. Mandy - We got snow Saturday night Sunday morning, it was awful.

ShopAnnies - Thanks for stopping by, I will be right over to return the favor.

Cat - I like your new LARGER Cat picture although I was really hoping for the Woman Formerly Known as Cat! Did the grill Cause it to snow? I can't prove otherwise.....

Farmer - I hope they hold off too, the wind is HOWLING at over 40 knots outside right now. I think the stalls will work but I still need to figure out how to manage/create a creep feeder.

Leon - I was worried that I wouldn't be ready as well. Since this is my first time panic won't help things go any smoother!

Mandy - I will check out the website, thanks.

OFG - The Commander asked me about Alaska but I told him I couldn't live in a place that "Honey buckets" were required! If I'm not laughing I'm crying.....

Ian - Old Man Winter is back with a vengeance, I guess the extra snow will make the follow on flooding look prettier.

Danni - Moving to Oregon would be ideal except we couldn't get jobs and the taxes are really high. I love the look of my (mini)barns, I think they look cozy too.
